Your Reptile

Juveniles can use smaller enclosures temporarily, but plan for adult size from day one if possible.

The longest horizontal dimension. Sets your thermal gradient.

Front-to-back. Lets reptiles turn around comfortably.

For arboreal species (chameleons, cresties, tree boas), height matters more than length.

Meets minimum

Workable, but go bigger if you can

Your enclosure meets the minimum size for an adult Bearded Dragon. It's livable and safe, but tight on decor and gradient room. Recommended 72×36×36" gives more headroom.

Setup Notes for This Species

  • Meets minimum
You're at the modern minimum. Functional, but the recommended 72×36×36" gives more flexibility.
  • Two hides minimum
Always provide hides on both warm and cool ends. Single-hide setups force trade-offs between security and temperature regulation.
  • Substrate depth
Bearded Dragons burrow. Use 4-6 inches of suitable loose substrate at minimum — deeper for active diggers.
  • Bioactive bonus
Bioactive setups need extra space. Live plants, deeper substrate, and microfauna require an additional 20–30% volume beyond the minimum.
